Weed Wrangles

What is a Weed Wrangle? As stated on the official Weed Wrangle website, “a Weed Wrangle® is a one-day, area-wide, volunteer effort to help rescue our public parks and green spaces from non-native invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, vines, and flowering plants. Supervised by an expert in invasive weed management, Weed Wrangle® volunteers learn, practice and begin a habit of maintaining an area free of non-native invasive plants and encourage replanting with natives in removal areas. By engaging our neighbors and challenging them to take action in their own spaces, we hope to create a movement that will have the greatest impact on the invasive plant population.”

WONA’s primary mission is educational: to teach residents how to identify and control the worst invasive plants in our region. Invasive plants harm the environment, the economy and even human health, and our mission is to make sure everyone is aware of the worst invasive plants in our region. Once you’ve experienced a Weed Wrangle, we hope you’ll be inspired and confident to remove the invasive plants from your property.

If you’d like to get involved and support future Weed Wrangles, please check out our public events calendar for the next one. These events are only scheduled in the winter months. If you’d like to be added to our notification mailing list, please reach out to us at [email protected] with the subject line “Weed Wrangle.” We encourage all members of the public (including non-members) to participate in our Weed Wrangles.
